How To Check Aadhaar Card PAN Card Link Status online?
There are two ways to check if your Aadhaar and PAN card is linked, which are as follows:
Check the Aadhaar PAN card link status without logging into the Income Tax portal
- Visit the Income Tax e-filing portal.
- Navigate to the ‘Quick Links’ section and select ‘Link Aadhaar Status’.
- Provide your PAN number and Aadhaar number, then click on the ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’ button.
A message regarding your Link Aadhaar status will be displayed on successful validation. The following message will be displayed when your Aadhaar is linked to your PAN card: “Your PAN is already linked to given Aadhaar” (as shown below).
While your Aadhaar-PAN link is being processed, you will encounter the following message on the screen: “Your request for Aadhaar-PAN linking has been submitted to UIDAI for validation. Please monitor the status later by clicking on the ‘Link Aadhaar Status’ link located on the Home Page.”
If your Aadhaar is not connected to your PAN card, the screen will display the subsequent message: “Aadhaar not linked with PAN. Kindly select ‘Link Aadhaar’ to establish the linkage between your Aadhaar and PAN” (as illustrated below).
Check the Aadhaar PAN card link status by logging into the Income Tax portal
- Log in to the Income Tax e-filing portal.
- On the homepage, access the ‘Dashboard’ and select the ‘Link Aadhaar Status’ option.
- Alternatively, navigate to ‘My Profile’ and choose the ‘Link Aadhaar Status’ option.
When your PAN card is successfully linked with your Aadhaar, your Aadhaar number will be presented. Conversely, if your PAN card is not linked with your Aadhaar, the status “Link Aadhaar Status” will be shown.
When your request to link your Aadhaar with your PAN card is pending with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) for validation, you will have to check the status later.

How To Check Aadhaar Card PAN Card Link Status via SMS?
- Compose the SMS in the following format: UIDPAN <12-digit Aadhaar number> <10-digit PAN number>.
- Send the SMS to either ‘567678’ or ‘56161’.
- Await the response from the government service.
When the Aadhaar is successfully linked with the PAN, you will receive the following message: “Aadhaar has already been linked with PAN (number) in the ITD database. Thank you for using our services.”
When the Aadhaar is not linked to PAN, the message will appear as follows – “Aadhaar is not associated with PAN (number) in ITD database. Thank you for using our services.”
How to link Aadhaar with a PAN card online?
If your Aadhaar is not linked to your PAN card, you must initiate the Aadhaar-PAN linkage process by paying a late penalty of Rs. 1,000 on the Income Tax website. - Visit the Income Tax e-filing portal.
- Click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ under the ‘Quick Links’ section.
- Enter your ‘PAN Number’ and ‘Aadhaar Number’, then click the ‘Validate’ button.
- Proceed by clicking the ‘Continue to Pay Through e-Pay Tax’ button.
- Input your PAN and mobile number, then click the ‘Continue’ button.
- Under the ‘Income Tax’ tab, click the ‘Proceed’ button.
- Complete the payment of the challan amount and click ‘Continue’.
- Once again, navigate to ‘Link Aadhaar’ under the ‘Quick Links’ section.
- Enter your PAN and Aadhaar, then click the ‘Validate’ button.
- Provide your Aadhaar number, mobile number, OTP, and click ‘Validate’.
The request for Aadhaar-PAN linking will be sent to the UIDAI for validation.
You can also visit a PAN card centre and submit the Aadhaar-PAN card linking request form for linking the two cards.
Fees for Aadhaar PAN card linking
The PAN-Aadhaar linking process was free until March 31, 2022. If you completed the PAN-Aadhaar linkage between April 1, 2022, and June 30, 2022, a penalty of Rs. 500 was applicable. However, starting from July 1, 2022, a penalty of Rs. 1,000 is required to link your PAN with your Aadhaar card. Therefore, it is necessary to first settle the Rs. 1,000 penalty for Aadhaar-PAN linkage before June 30, 2023.
If the linkage between PAN and Aadhaar is not established by June 30, 2023, PAN cards will cease to be functional from July 1, 2023.
Who should link Aadhaar with a PAN card?
As per Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act, individuals holding a PAN card are required to connect it to their Aadhaar cards. Therefore, it is mandatory for all taxpayers to complete the PAN-Aadhaar linkage by June 30, 2023, by remitting a penalty of Rs. 1,000. Failure to do so will result in the deactivation of their PAN cards.
Nevertheless, individuals falling under specific categories such as Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), citizens aged 80 years and above, and residents of Assam, Meghalaya, and Jammu and Kashmir are exempt from linking their Aadhaar with PAN cards.
